Floor care and restoration in Fairfax County
Fairfax is the southern end of our range. We travel here by appointment rather than on short notice, so booking ahead matters more than it does closer to home.
Virginia permits basements differently, and the City is not the County
Two things separate Fairfax from the Maryland side of our range. The first is that the Virginia Construction Code requires a permit to finish a basement, and an egress window is expected even where the basement will not be used as a bedroom. Maryland jurisdictions vary on that point, so an owner who has done this before in Montgomery or Baltimore County should not assume the same rules carry over. Submitted plans are expected to be drawn to scale and to show room dimensions along with floor to joist height.
The second is jurisdictional and catches people out constantly: the City of Fairfax is a separate jurisdiction from Fairfax County, with its own code administration. An address with a Fairfax mailing address is not necessarily a Fairfax County permitting matter. Worth establishing before anyone files anything.
County permits are filed online, and applications rise sharply every spring as deck and porch season starts, so a project with a deadline benefits from an early application. We work across Vienna, Reston, Annandale, Burke, Springfield, Herndon and Centreville. Details were checked in October 2026 and should be confirmed with the county before work begins.
